Chris Sutton has expressed his surprise at Micah Richards’ suggestion that both Pedro Porro and Ivan Perisic are poor defenders.
Spurs’ wing-backs did not cover themselves in glory in their side’s humiliating 6-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday.
As Micah Richards insinuated that Tottenham Hotspur duo Pedro Porro and Ivan Perisic are not the best defensively, Chris Sutton was gobsmacked.
Chris Sutton surprised by Micah Richards’ assessment of Pedro Porro & Ivan Perisic
During Cristian Stellini’s final game in charge as the club’s interim manager, the side put in one of their worst ever performances in Premier League history.
In fact, several Spurs fans would happily acknowledge that it was one of, if not the worst defensive display from a top side one has ever witnessed in the English top-flight.
As Micah Richards initially hinted that Pedro Porro and Ivan Perisic struggle defensively, Chris Sutton was surprised to hear that.

“I said the manager is in charge for making you be able to play at the best of their ability, so if you have wing-backs, I wouldn’t play them at full-backs because their strengths are not defending”, Richards said on BBC Radio 5 Live’s The Monday Night Club.
“That is ridiculous, Micah [Richards]. To suggest that they can’t defend at all. That’s absolutely ridiculous”, Sutton replied.
“Chris, they are at Newcastle. They are flying. [Ivan] Perisic, what is he known for? His technical ability, his crossing, his whipping in.”
Richards retorted, saying, “Yeah, he works hard, he’s a team player. Porro the exact same. Going down the line, getting in a cross.”
Sutton concluded, “If you’re up against Newcastle who are flying and you are asked to defend wave after wave of attack, that’s on the manager for putting you in that position and then it’s on the player to at least have a go.”
While it is unlikely that Chris Sutton and Micah Richards will agree anytime soon, it is likely that Tottenham supporters will attest to the faith that both Pedro Porro and Ivan Perisic are not the best of defenders.
