Ricky Gervais has reacted on Twitter to England bowing out of the World Cup on Saturday evening following a missed penalty from Harry Kane.

France secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Three Lions in Qatar to advance into the semi-final of the competition, where Morocco await.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Kane scored a penalty to cancel out Aurelien Tchouameni’s rocket of an opener after 17 minutes.

But the Spurs hitman couldn’t repeat the feat, blazing over from 12 yards after Olivier Giroud had nodded Les Bleus back in front.

It was also a suspect refereeing display from Wilton Sampaio and here’s how Ricky Gervais reacted to his performance and the game overall on Twitter.

Tottenham supporters will be hoping that Kane’s miss doesn’t result in a drop in confidence.

The 29-year-old is the Lilywhites’ best player by a mile and if he comes back to Premier League action after a dip in self belief then you’d have to worry if you were Antonio Conte.

The North Londoners are back in action on Boxing Day with a difficult visit to Brentford.

Even before the World Cup break, Tottenham had been erratic to say the least, losing at home to Newcastle United a couple weeks prior.

Consistency will be the name of the game for Conte during the second half of the season and Kane is a massive part of that.
