Everton lost 3-1 at Manchester City on Saturday afternoon.
Everton forward Richarlison has told the Liverpool Echo that he spoke to Marco Silva before playing on the right wing against Manchester City – and is adamant that he will play anywhere for the club.
The Toffees travelled to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon to try and inflict a first home defeat this season on Pep Guardiola’s side, but came up short in the end.
Gabriel Jesus hit a brace before Dominic Calvert-Lewin pulled one back for Everton, only for Raheem Sterling to restore City’s two-goal lead and seal a 3-1 victory.
Everton were punished for a couple of errors, and missed chances in the first half, with Richarlison particularly guilty of squandering one great opportunity.
The Brazilian forward volleyed over the bar when free at the back post, with Lucas Digne picking him out perfectly, only for Richarlison to smash high and wide.
Richarlison didn’t have many better opportunities than that during the course of the game, as he was otherwise kept pretty quiet by the Manchester City back line.
Primarily a left winger or centre forward this season, Richarlison has thrived once again under Marco Silva, but was surprisingly used as a right winger against City on Saturday in yet another position change.
Richarlison has now admitted that he spoke to boss Silva about playing there before the game, feeling that it was best against City’s setup, and remains adamant that he will play anywhere even if he is unfamiliar with playing on the right.
“I spoke to Marco Silva today and he put me on the right wing, I’ll play wherever he wants me to,” said Richarlison. “He checked out Man City’s tactical setup and thought the best position for me would be on the right wing. I’m happy to play wherever he wants me,” hea dded.
