Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with both attackers recently.
According to the Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are keeping a very close eye on Watford’s Richarlison, and the Brazilian would be a far better option than long-term Spurs target Wilfried Zaha.
The Sun confirmed recently that Spurs have been tracking the Crystal Palace winger’s progress since he returned to Selhurst Park from Manchester United but, if it is clear choice between the pair, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino should go all out for the Watford ace.
At 20, Richarlison is only just beginning his career but he took no time at all settling into the Premier League, with four goals and three assists in his first 11 games at that level. That is a fine record and he is only going to get better in the years ahead.
In contrast Zaha is now 25 and is still only showing glimpses of the talent that had him dubbed the next big thing when he became Sir Alex Ferguson’s last signing at United.
It would be easy to point to his recent strikes against Chelsea and West Ham United as evidence of his quality, but he is still too erratic for a Tottenham side that needs consistency from its attacking options.
Richarlison was a risk top clubs opted not to take when he completed his £11.5million from Fluminense last summer (as reported by the Guardian) and, while he will cost a lot more now, he is clearly cut out for English football.
Tottenham are normally at the forefront when it comes to savvy signings and, while on this occasion they fell short, their chairman Daniel Levy should spend the club’s money on Richarlison rather than a player who is five years his junior but nowhere near as good.
