Cenk Tosun has confirmed his long-awaited Everton exit this summer after more than four years at the club – with a heartfelt post on Instagram. Both Richarlison, and Lucas Digne, have responded by wishing him the best.
Tosun, 30, joined Everton back in January 2018 as one of Sam Allardyce’s few signings. The Toffees spent a whopping £27million to land the Turkey international, but the striker has failed to have kind of impact at Everton.
He managed just 61 appearances in nearly five seasons, scoring only 11 goals. This season, he has been afforded three appearances throughout, amassing just 11 minutes of first-team action. His contract ends in June.
Little surprise, then, that Tosun has taken to Instagram to confirm he will be leaving the club when that contract ends. It is believed he is earning a huge £60,000 a week (Spotrac), which will save Everton some cash.
Tosun confirms Everton exit: Richarlison and Digne respond
Unfortunately, Tosun has never made it work. Costing more than £2m a goal, the striker desperately needs a move to rejuvenate his career. Everton also need Tosun to go, with the club needing to sort Financial Fairplay.
Even loan spells at Crystal Palace did not work out for Tosun. A move back to Turkey is likely, with Besiktas set to secure a reunion for the striker where he is thought of fondly. It will certainly do his career good to go back.
Tosun played alongside Aston Villa star Digne during his time at Goodison Park, and the Frenchman reacted with a series of hearts. Richarlison also commented, posting “good luck, baldy.”
