New Aston Villa boss Remi Garde faces his first big setback in charge of the club, with Jordan Amavi injured on international duty for France’s under-21 side.
French newspaper L’Equipe report that Amavi’s knee injury is potentially a serious one, but it is yet to be determined whether or not there is ligament damage.
The summer signing had been excellent at left-back even though though the club’s form has been poor.
If he is ruled out of action for the club, then Kieran Richardson is expected to be his replacement.
Yet the former England international is a substantial step down from Amavi, judging from the performances of the two players for the club.
Statistics show Amavi has outperformed Richardson in several key areas, taking into account Amavi’s performances this season, and Richardon’s last season and his game time this campaign.

Amavi is shown to be better defensively, and from an attacking point of view than Richardson, based on the statistics.
Villa fans will have to hope new boss Remi Garde can help Richardson can raise his game, and be inspired to step up, and if he cannot, the club may decide to take action in the January transfer market to sign a new player, if Amavi is still out.
