‘The Bolton Baresi’. Those were the words echoed by Jamie Carragher after Nat Phillips’ performance during Liverpool’s 2-0 win against RB Leipzig on Wednesday night.
It’s the only description Carragher provided of the Liverpool academy product, with Micah Richards being less hyped and labelling his display as ‘outstanding’, as they told CBS’s Champions League coverage last night.
After slipping down the Premier League table in alarming fashion, the Reds progressed through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League last night in a pretty comfortable fashion.
The dreams of Liverpool supporters came true when Jurgen Klopp named two natural centre-backs and Fabinho in the middle of the park.
It worked a treat, as ex-Man City defender, Richards, was impressed with what he saw from Phillips.
But his overjoyed fellow pundit opted to compare him to an AC Milan great.
“Nat Phillips I thought today was outstanding,” said Richards.
He is then interrupted by Carragher who says ‘The Bolton Baresi’.
Richards burst out in laughter and responded: “Oh my God, he’s definitely not Baresi. But today he played very, very well.”

The key thing now is that Klopp finally has something to run with after months of indifferent form and changes to the starting XI.
Liverpool fans will be shouting from their lungs that Ozan Kabak and Phillips need to remain at the back from now on, with the leader of the orchestra, Fabinho, sitting in the middle.
