Premier League chief executive Richard Masters has told Sky Sports that he cannot disclose if the proposed Newcastle United takeover has been ratified yet.

Masters has said that it is a confidential process, and that he cannot disclose anything about it.

According to talkSPORT, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund want to buy Newcastle from current owner Mike Ashley.

The report has claimed that PIF are confident of the £300 million deal going through despite the problems they are facing.

Masters told Sky Sports about the proposed Newcastle takeover: “I can’t get into it. The takeover of football clubs is done via the directors’ and owners’ test. That process is entirely an confidential process.

“That’s why I can’t say anything about it. I can’t say anything to prejudice those discussions. I am afraid that I cannot go into any details.”

When asked if he can share whether a decision has been made, Masters said: “No, I can’t even do that. It’s that confidential.”

Staying patient

There is nothing much Newcastle fans can do at the moment except hope that the takeover goes through soon.

It has been quite a long process, and perhaps it could still take a few more days or even weeks.

With the Premier League set to return next month, perhaps that will help Newcastle fans get a bit distracted from the takeover process.

Steve Bruce’s side are doing well this season, as they are still in the FA Cup and are unlikely to get relegated from the Premier League.

Things are looking bright for Newcastle.
