The former Sky Sports presenter believes that the Premier League want to say no to Newcastle being potentially owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).
Proposed Newcastle United takeover
As reported by The Times, (PIF) will own 80% of the Magpies, Amanda Staveley and her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi will have a 10% share in the club, and the Reuben brothers – Simon and David – will have a 10% stake as well.
The Sun has claimed that the proposed £300 million takeover is done, with the announcement to be made on or around June 1.
The report in the British tabloid has stated that the Premier League’s owners’ and directors’ test did not find any problem.
Richard Keys’s take
Former Sky Sports news presenter Keys, who now works for beIN SPORTS, has said that the Premier League do not want the proposed Newcastle takeover to go through.
The sports presenter has added that Staveley has been feeding the press in the UK that the deal is close, but it is not.
Keys said on The Keys & Gray Show: “By the way, I have sympathy for the Premier League.
“They find themselves in this situation, and the Saudis and Amanda Staveley constantly, constantly feeding the press, it’s close, it’s near. Well, it isn’t.”
Keys added when Andy Gray said on the show that the Premier League want to say yes to the takeover: “I don’t think they do. I genuinely believe they want to say no.”
