The subject of this Mohamed Salah new contract has delighted Liverpool supporters.
And rightly so.
With Salah being Liverpool’s most influential player, and having lost Sadio Mane, it was always so important that the Reds kept the Egypt international on Merseyside beyond this summer.
The 30-year-old was out of contract next summer on his previous deal, but now FSG and Jurgen Klopp have tied him down to a long-term agreement.
However, Richard Keys isn’t convinced that he’s going to be a Liverpool player for the long term.
Writing on Twitter, the former Sky Sports presenter has suggested that the Anfield outfit’s hierarchy could sell Salah for £60 million in 12 months, rather than lose him on a free.
Even if he does leave in 2023, Liverpool will be protected and ultimately that’s the major point.
What a travesty it could’ve been if Klopp lost one of the club’s best-ever players for absolutely nothing a year from now.
And although a departure is still possible, at least Liverpool will command a transfer fee.
It might not be £60 million, because this is a player who’ll be 31 by then and that’a staggering fee for someone who’s only going to decline.
But it will be a large amount nonetheless and if nothing else, that’s worth celebrating.
