Andy Gray shelved his loyalties to Everton to applaud Liverpool star Mohamed Salah last weekend, according to Richard Keys.
Salah reminded everybody of his importance to Liverpool with a fantastic solo goal.
The Reds went 2-1 ahead against Manchester City on the back of the Egypt international’s magic, though Pep Guardiola’s side ultimately drew 2-2.
However, the game will forever be remembered for that goal, when the former Chelsea and Roma attacker danced around some Manchester City defenders en route to firing past Ederson.
There’s been no limit on the adulation that has followed the 29-year-old since.
And Keys claims that BeIN Sport colleague Andy Gray – an Everton man during his playing days – even saw fit to acknowledge the brilliance.
He wrote in his blog: “Stunning. It was absolutely stunning. I said on the day and I’ll repeat it now – the only other player on the planet that could’ve scored that goal is Messi. It was a work of art. A thing a rare beauty.
“It was one of those rare moments that brought spontaneous applause from the whole studio – even Andy – who’s a blue – but knew immediately that we’d all just witnessed something special.”
Is Salah staying at Liverpool?
Well, that’s the question.
Salah is only contracted to the Anfield club until 2023 but his heroics at Anfield on Sunday night will have made the likes of Michael Edwards sit up and take notice.
Not that Liverpool and Edwards were resting on their laurels regarding Salah’s contract before, but now it’s a much more pressing issue.
If this goal was against a Championship team it would’ve been praised nonetheless, but it was against Manchester City, the reigning Premier League champions.
That’s Salah’s pedigree, an example of how massive a player he is for Jurgen Klopp and a new contract needs to be tabled – and preferrably signed – as soon as possible.
