Should Liverpool have beaten Everton to Jordan Pickford?

The fallout from Liverpool’s Champions League final defeat rumbles on… with many fans still making their way back from Kiev.

Liverpool lost the final 3-1, beaten by a spectacular goal from Gareth Bale in between two absolute howlers from goalkeeper Loris Karius.

Karius’ place in the team next year is obviously now under more scrutiny than ever before, but instead of looking forward at potential options, some pundits are criticising them for players they did not sign previously.

One of these is BeIN Sports host Richard Keys, who hit out at the Reds for not signing goalkeeper Jordan Pickford last summer.

Pickford was available last summer after Sunderland were relegated.

Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals Everton took the gamble, and it appears to have paid off, with Pickford being one of the Toffees’ most reliable players, and in contention for a start at the World Cup for England.

Jurgen Klopp did not bring a goalkeeper to Liverpool last summer. It seemed like a mistake at the time, and at the weekend it backfired in the worst possible way.
