Richard Keys says Jurgen Klopp underestimated Sam Allardyce

Liverpool and Sam Allardyce’s Everton faced each other at Anfield in the Merseyside derby at the weekend.

Well-known sports presenter Richard Keys has suggested on his website that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp underestimated Everton boss Sam Allardyce.

Liverpool played out a 1-1 draw with Everton at home in the Merseyside derby at the weekend.

Although the Reds took the lead at Anfield, the Toffees restored parity and picked up a point from the Premier League game on Sunday afternoon.

Klopp’s team were strong favourites heading into the match, but the German boss surprised many by not including two of his best players in the starting lineup.

Star attackers Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho started the Merseyside derby on the substitutes’ bench, and Keys believes that this was arrogance from Liverpool manager Klopp.

The former Sky Sports presenter, who is now a Senior Football Anchor at beIN SPORTS, has also suggested that the former Borussia Dortmund head coach underestimated Everton boss Allardyce.

Keys wrote on his website: “I’ll bet Big Sam loved every second of Jurgen Klopp’s embarrassing post match tantrum.

“Klopp blamed everybody but himself for Liverpool’s implosion. What about his team selection? It was outrageous.

“What on earth possessed him to leave Countinho and Firmino out? What arrogance. ‘They were tired’ he argued. Tired? 16 games into a domestic season and 6 CL games and neither has played in them all.

“No, Klopp massively under-estimated Everton, their organisation and Sam. And it was a pen!”

Liverpool are fourth in the Premier League table at the moment, while Everton are currently 10th in the standings.
