The Everton manager is struggling to get a tune from his players.
Richard Keys has once again stuck the boot into Everton boss Marco Silva, describing him as ‘seriously out of his depth’ at Goodison Park.
Burnley beat Silva’s side 1-0 at Turf Moor this past weekend for what was the Toffees’ fourth successive Premier League defeat.
As a consequence, Everton are 18th in the table after eight games played and it looks like it might be another year before they mount a serious challenge for Champions League qualification.
The 42-year-old, whom the Merseysiders paid £4 million for when taking him Watford in 2018 [The Telegraph], is under serious pressure as things stand.
And Keys believes that the Portuguese has been found out, claiming that he’s ‘a deeply unpopular’ figure at the club.
He wrote on his blog: “The last man in big trouble is our friend at Everton. I’ve spoken about Marco Silva before as well. Here’s a man seriously out of his depth – who’s also lost his dressing room.
“I dedicated a blog to him a year or so back. You’ll find it If you have a look. I pointed out the fact that he’s always managed to get out of a job just before being found out. Well – not this time. He’s a deeply unpopular character with all his staff at Goodison, let alone the players.”
Silva’s side welcome West Ham United to Goodison on Saturday week and anything but a victory could be curtains.
It isn’t too late for Everton to salvage a good season, because they’re only seven points adrift of fourth-placed Leicester City, but the players aren’t playing for Silva and sooner or later the club’s hierarchy will have to make a big decision.
