Richard Keys seems to be a fan of one Newcastle United player.

Writing on his blog, Richard Keys has singled out Jamal Lascelles for praise following Newcastle United’s 1-0 win at Swansea City on Sunday.

Newcastle made it two wins on the spin as a header in the last 15 minutes from captain Lascelles proved enough to down the Swans in South Wales yesterday.

Claims about a lack of collective passion might’ve been levelled at the Magpies after losing their first two Premier League games with rather limp displays at home to Spurs and away to fellow newly-promoted side Huddersfield Town last month.

But the former Nottingham Forest centre-back showed what yesterday’s win meant to him with his post-match celebrations at the Liberty Stadium, and Keys says that he enjoyed such a show of passion from the skipper.

“The Toon got a well deserved result at Swansea. What a terrific captains performance that was from Jamaal Lascelles,” he wrote on his blog.

“What I liked most about it was the way he celebrated on the whistle showing just pure joy and pride. It’s not often we see that on a football pitch these days.”

Keys is bang-on. It was good to see such strong celebrations at full time and that sort of passion will stand Newcastle in good stead this season.

It was not a great summer on the transfer front for manager Rafael Benitez, but it’s worth remembering that he already has some real quality in his squad and Lascelles is certainly one of them.
