Richard Keys and Andy Gray agreed that Everton signed the ‘wrong’ Brighton player in the summer in Neal Maupay, with Newcastle United ‘stepping up interest’ in Leandro Trossard.
During the summer transfer window, Everton added Neal Maupay to their ranks from the Seagulls, but he has struggled during his time on Merseyside.
Whilst Maupay has only netted once from his ten Premier League games for Frank Lampard’s side, Trossard has seven goals to his name, that’s why the likes of Newcastle are pushing to sign the £25 million star.
What’s even worse for the Toffees is that, if Trossard doesn’t move in January, then he will leave for a free next summer, which would be a coup for whatever doorstep he lands on.
Both Keys and Gray spoke about Newcastle’s interest in Trossard, with the versatile forward only starting once for Belgium as they were knocked out of the Qatar World Cup, as they told their own podcast.
“I read that Newcastle have stepped up their interest in Leandro Trossard,” said Keys. “I think Everton got the wrong (Maupay) one.”
Gray responded: “They might have done, yes. We might have done.”

It’s baffling that Roberto Martinez only started the in-form Premier League star once in Qatar, despite Eden Hazard’s struggles and lack of minutes this season.
But it’s a blessing in disguise for those who want to buy the 27-year-old from Brighton.
If Belgium had cooked on the world’s biggest stage, added with Trossard, then it would have increased the noise around him and his possible transfer valuation in January.
If Newcastle are seriously interested in signing the player, then they have to put a fee down next month, else he can pick and choose whoever he wants in the summer.
