Everton face hovering above the relegation zone despite a ridiculous outlay in the summer.
Richard Keys has admitted on his blog that Everton manager Ronald Koeman is making him look like a mug.
The former Sky Sports presenter tipped Everton to finish in the top four before the Premier League season kicked off.
It was a reasonable prediction at the time on the basis that the Toffees had spent close to £200 million on new players during the summer.
But seven games in and Koeman’s side are only two points above the relegation zone in 15th after losing to Burnley at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.
Consequently, the Dutch manager faces a very uncertain future on Merseyside and Keys says that the Clarets’ heroics this season render his excuses rather silly.
“You’re making me look a right mug Ronald Koeman! I wish Evertonians would stop complaining about the tough start they’ve had,” he wrote on his blog.
“They didn’t lay a glove on Burnley at the weekend. Burnley – who’ve beaten Chelsea and drawn with Spurs and Liverpool on the road – before winning at Goodison. It doesn’t get much tougher than that.”
It only gets tougher for Everton who face Arsenal and Chelsea after the international break and time will tell if Koeman is even around to take charge of those games.
