Pundit hits out at Everton over their poor season.

Sam Allardyce, Manager of Everton looks on during the Premier League match between Arsenal and Everton at Emirates Stadium on February 3, 2018 in London, England.

Everton may have finished in eighth place this season but it was a campaign from which they wanted so much more.

After considerable summer investment Everton hoped to challenge for a top four place, so it was embarrassing that they had to go and seek out Sam Allardyce to drag them out of a relegation battle.

Allardyce did what was asked of him but he did not last long, with the Toffees terminating his contract earlier this week.

Now attention is turning to their next appointment, with former Watford boss Marco Silva strongly tipped as Allardyce’s replacement.

Pundit Richard Keys has hit out at Everton for the season that was, and questioned whether Silva is the right man, branding the club’s board as a ‘shambles’.

He wrote on his blog: “Marco Silva at Everton. Really? Again, I wish him well. Everton is a club that should also be chasing CL places. I genuinely thought they would be this season, but what a shambles it turned out to be. How? Why? Look around the Boardroom for the answers. If you don’t have unity there you’re asking for trouble.

Commenting on Silva he added: “We’ll see. I’m not convinced. Not at all convinced.”

Silva, or whoever Everton’s next boss may be, will be heavily backed in the transfer market this summer, and expectations will be high.

Everton’s board will be a lot wiser after last year’s failure, and changes are already being made with a new director of football appointed.

There is a clear desire for a fresh start and this time next year Everton hope to have earned praise instead of derision, but the hard work is only just beginning.
