Richard Keys slams Tottenham’s Ange Postecoglou call, thinks 50-year-old should be manager

Richard Keys has slammed Tottenham Hotspur for looking to appoint Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou as their next manager and not Brendan Rodgers. 

Tottenham are set to bring in Ange Postecoglou as Antonio Conte’s replacement, but Keys thinks his record, at Celtic, doesn’t match up to Brendan Rodgers’, as he posted on Twitter.

The beIN SPORTS presenter pointed out that the Northern Irishman won ‘7 in 3 years’ at Parkhead, before leaving for Leicester and winning the FA Cup, as he was also insistent on bringing up his near Premier League title win at Liverpool.

For Postecoglou, if he is indeed Tottenham’s next boss, then it couldn’t have come at a better time for himself.

He has just helped the Bhoys to the treble, playing an attacking brand of football and lifting a club, that when he first joined, had issues on and off the pitch.

But still, it’s not enough for Richard Keys, who issued this response: “So Postecoglou is a good fit at Spurs after winning 5 trophies in 2 years at Celtic? That’s it? Brendan Rodgers won 7 in 3 years & he was on for a treble treble before leaving. He’s since won the FA Cup & he was a Gerrard slip from a PL title. But he’s not a good fit?”

When it comes to football management, it’s all about timing and, as of this moment, Postecoglou is riding a wave and Rodgers isn’t.

If this was a few years ago, when Rodgers won the FA Cup with Leicester, then he would have been top of Daniel Levy’s list, no doubt.

But, the fact of the matter is that he was recently sacked by that very same club months before they were relegated to the Championship, whilst the Greek-born Australian in Glasgow is at the top of his game.
