The Rangers legend reached out to the manager after the recent derby at Ibrox.

Despite a brilliant start to the new season, losing at home to their arch-rivals still sticks out as a particularly poor result.
Last season’s derby matches suggested that Gerrard had found a way for his team to really get at the Hoops when playing in Govan.
It’s the only thing that’s separated the two times so far this term, highlighting just how tight the Scottish Premiership title race might be over the coming months.
For Gough, it’s not something worth stressing too much and that’s why he sent the private message to Gerrard.
As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he said: “Old Firm games are always difficult. Anything can happen, but they normally even themselves out.
“But in Scotland we’re either very good or very bad. There is no middle ground, especially in those games.
“I was unfortunate enough to lose a few, so I texted Steven and told him to make sure he wins the next game.
“I don’t think either team will drop too many points this season, so you just have to win your own games.”
Can Rangers win at Celtic Park?
The next match between the two sides comes at Celtic Park in December, which on paper is a much more difficult task for Rangers to overcome.
Celtic won both matches at the venue last season in Gerrard’s debut season. Rangers haven’t actually picked up a single victory there since their promotion to the Scottish Premiership back in 2016.
It’s a dismal record that shows no signs of ending any time soon, so Gough might be left waiting in terms of winning the next one.

The Gers’ most realistic hope is probably picking up a draw, something that would be seen as a good result ahead of the next Ibrox meeting.
What the top of the table looks like when that one comes around will be fascinating to find out.
