Rhys Williams made his Liverpool debut at the heart of defence for the trip to Lincoln last night.
The result could hardly have been more emphatic, with the Reds running out 7-2 winners.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were 4-0 ahead at half time and made it 5-0 within 18 seconds of the interval.
Williams took to Instagram to post about his pride in the aftermath of the match.
The post was liked by Manchester United star Mason Greenwood, with the pair having faced off at Under 18 level.
It was a big step up for Williams last night, who spent last season out on loan with Kidderminster.
To go from that to playing alongside the best central defender in the world, Virgil van Dijk, is a lot for a young player to take on.
Given Klopp has left himself with just three senior central defenders, Williams, along with Sepp van den Berg and Billy Koumetio, should get chances in the cups.
The challenge for the likes of Williams is to keep on improving under Klopp.
The German boss will give chances to youngsters if they’re good enough and Williams made a decent start on debut.
As per WhoScored, Williams made two tackles, three interceptions and a clearance during a solid night’s work.
The two goals conceded may rankle, but can’t take the shine off a teenager’s debut, and Williams will hope there are more nights like this to come.
