While Tiger Woods doesn’t often reveal much in his press conferences, it was no surprise that the golfing world turned its attention to the media centre ahead of the Hero World Challenge on Tuesday.
Even though Tiger Woods won’t be playing at the Hero World Challenge this week, the 15-time major winner was always going to be a central topic of conversation in the Bahamas.
Woods hasn’t featured in any events so far in 2025. He suffered a ruptured Achilles just before The Masters and later had back surgery toward the end of the year.
His media appearance provided a chance to hear from Woods on several topics, including his thoughts on this year’s Ryder Cup.

Tiger Woods’ most unexpected answer from Hero World Challenge presser
Woods had already turned down the chance to captain the 2025 Ryder Cup team, with Keegan Bradley stepping in to take the role.
After Bradley oversaw a loss at Bethpage Black, there’s a growing sense that Woods is the obvious choice for 2027.
But it seems not everyone is on the same page just yet. Rex Hoggard, speaking on the Golf Channel Podcast, said he was genuinely surprised by how Woods responded when asked about his interest in taking up the role.
He said: “Tiger Woods’ comment was, and I had to write it down: ‘no one has asked’. How is that possible?
“How is that possible in the year of our Lord, 2025, October, as you pointed out correctly, about a month shy of when the PGA of America normally announces the captain for the next Ryder Cup, that they haven’t even had a conversation?
“It hasn’t even come up. We all know, you and I, and anyone else who watches this podcast or knows anything about golf – that it’s his job if he wants it. It’s a natural fit. He has a great relationship with JP McManus who owns Adare Manor. He’s played in JP McManus’ pro-am before.
“It was supposed to be his job at Bethpage – I just don’t understand how we haven’t gotten there yet.”
Pressure mounting on PGA of America if Tiger Woods isn’t named next US Ryder Cup Captain
Woods could be holding back information, not showing all his cards. That said, it wouldn’t be shocking if the PGA of America haven’t reached out to him yet, considering how things went in New York.
If Woods doesn’t end up with the job at Adare Manor, the question then is who steps in.
There’s some backing for Bradley, and Rickie Fowler might also come into consideration if they stick with a similar direction as before.
The spotlight on this decision is already intense. If they pass over Woods and the US lose again in Europe, fans won’t take it quietly.
