Arsene Wenger has revealed how Mesut Ozil is trying to turn his form around at Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger leapt to the defence of German midfielder Mesut Ozil yesterday, describing the £42.5 million man as an exceptional player.
Ozil was mocked following his performance against Liverpool last weekend, as pictures emerged of a mocked up ‘missing’ poster which asked where exactly the former Real Madrid star had gone.
Wenger has given a further insight into the troubles which have plagued Ozil and has suggested a possible way he can turn things around.
“He thinks it’s more physical here for sure and he works on his body strength to deal with it. He works on strengthening his body in the gym,” Wenger is quoted by the Independent.
So there you have it, once he hits the gym and builds up some mass he’ll be back to his usual self.
That doesn’t explain why Ozil was so effective at the start of the season as opposed to now but it’s a training tactic the Gunners can use which will do him, or the team, no harm at all.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Olivier Giroud | Arsenal | FW | 163 | 23 | 1,974 |

| Aaron Ramsey | Arsenal | MF | 124 | 18 | 1,495 |

| Laurent Koscielny | Arsenal | DF | 86 | 22 | 1,909 |
| Mesut Özil | Arsenal | MF | 74 | 20 | 1,720 |
Ozil is behind several other Arsenal stars when it comes to the number of duels won so far this season, which suggests that he is vulnerable to being brushed off the ball too easily in the middle of the pitch.
| Player | Club | Pos | Aerial Won | Apps | Mins |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mesut Özil | Arsenal | MF | 5 | 20 | 1,720 |
| Lukas Podolski | Arsenal | FW | 4 | 8 | 293 |
| Theo Walcott | Arsenal | MF | 4 | 13 | 858 |
| Jack Wilshere | Arsenal | MF | 3 | 20 | 1,431 |
| Serge Gnabry | Arsenal | MF | 1 | 8 | 447 |
He’s also in the bottom five in terms of aerial challenges won for Arsenal this season but that’s not a major cause for concern, as he’s a much better player than a simple target man at the top of the midfield.
There are other reasons Ozil may have struggled since the Christmas and New Year period with the fact he’s not used to having no winter break one of the main factors.
Credit also has to go to the teams that have managed to keep him quiet for their tactics and the job for Ozil is to now reinvent himself and bulking up isn’t a bad place for him to start.
