Ibrox veteran Kenny Miller will be out of Rangers action for “significant” period.

Rangers striker Kenny Miller is set to remain on the sidelines for a “significant” amount of time after Graeme Murty told the club’s website he had ruptured his hamstring.

The 37-year-old picked up a hamstring injury against Hibernian during the 2-1 win over Neil Lennon’s side last weekend, but Murty has informed fans that the muscle problem is much more serious than first feared.

It now appears that Miller will be out of action for a greater period of time after rupturing his hamstring, which could see him remain in the treatment room for a number of months. Murty confirmed the news on Thursday.

Michael O'Halloran of Rangers during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Hamilton Academical at Ibrox Stadium on August 6, 2016 in Glasgow, Scotland.

“Kenny’s [injury] is going to be more significant than we thought. Unfortunately it looks as though he has a rupture of his hamstring, so he is going to have a significant amount of time out,” the interim boss said.

It leaves the Gers light up front, with only Alfredo Morelos and Eduardo Herrera recognised as first-team strikers while Josh Windass has been used as an attacking spearhead on occasion.

Miller had missed just three league games prior to the injury, but the blow could be eased by the return of versatile attacker Michael O’Halloran, as the striker’s loan at St. Johnstone ends on January 1.

The 26-year-old had been ostracised by former manager Pedro Caixinha, which saw him loaned out to Scottish Premiership rivals St. Johnstone until the new year.

O’Halloran himself admitted to the Daily Record earlier this month that he does not know “”what is going to happen after January,” but Miller’s injury could give the two-time Scotland Under-21 international a new lease of life at Ibrox.

In what could be considered perfect timing, O’Halloran may use the chance to return to Rangers in Miller’s place as a way of kickstarting his Ibrox career in the top flight of Scottish football.

It remains to be seen if Rangers will look to use O’Halloran or send him back on loan, but after scoring five goals in 14 league games this season, surely Murty must consider using the striker when his loan finishes on January 1.
