Reto Ziegler hinted that he would jump at the chance to join Celtic while Leeds United were also linked with the Swiss defender.

Reto Ziegler was not short of options this summer despite being released by Swiss side FC Sion due to a series of injury problems.
The one time Tottenham Hotspur and Wigan Athletic left-back claimed in June that Scottish champions Celtic had been in touch, as had La Liga high-flyers Real Betis. And Swiss outlet RTS added that Leeds United were considering bringing Ziegler back to England and had been in touch regarding a potential summer move.
Instead, however, no deal materialised. Though Ziegler may wish they had as he struggles to make an impact at new club FC Luzern.

According to Luzerner Zeitung, the 35-time international signed a one-year contract with the Swiss Super League club at the end of September and made his debut when coming off the bench in a 2-0 defeat to FC Thun in early October.
Just a few months ago, Ziegler stated that he deserved a big move on the back of his fine performances for Sion the season before. No doubt he had Celtic on his mind rather than a Luzern side who finished fifth in one of Europe’s lesser known leagues in 2016/17 – a place below Sion.

Whether Ziegler would have forced his way into the Celtic starting XI is fairly unlikely, however, with Kieran Tierney and talented youngster Calvin Miller offering Brendan Rodgers both talent and huge amounts of potential.
A summer switch to Leeds, however, would have made more sense as the Championship club’s only natural left-back Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, has been frozen out.
