Leeds United should need no reminding about Marco Matias’s talent when they take on Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.
Matias scored a stunning goal for the Owls against Leeds in a 1-1 draw against them in 2016, his first season at the club.
It looked like the start of a promising career at Wednesday, yet he has failed to build on it. Perhaps until now.
Matias is enjoying a resurgence in recent weeks, and has been the club’s most dangerous player.
He has scored two goals and provided one assist in his last three games, helping the Owls to a 2-1 win over Aston Villa at the weekend.
Against Leeds United on Friday night, Matias faces a big test.
The right winger will match up against Leeds United left-back Barry Douglas, arguably the very best in the division.
Douglas helped lead Wolves to promotion last season and he has played a key role in Leeds’ success this season since his £3 million summer transfer.
If Matias is going to continue his form, he will need to get the better of the Scotsman.
