Rangers take on Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Wednesday evening.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard looks on during the rearranged Scottish Cup match between Cowdenbeath and Rangers at Central Park on January 30, 2019 in Cowdenbeath, Scotland.

Steven Gerrard has told Tuesday’s press conference that his Rangers side possess a lot of respect for Wednesday night’s opponents Aberdeen, as quoted by the club’s Twitter account – but Gers fans have disagreed with their manager.

Rangers take on The Dons on Wednesday night as they look to keep the pressure on Old Firm rivals and Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic, who are six points clear at the top of the table.

But they face a tricky test in Aberdeen, who have proven to be somewhat of a bogey team for Gerrard since his arrival at Ibrox. The two sides have played eachother three times this season, with Aberdeen winning twice and drawing once.

One of those defeats for Rangers came in the semi-final of the League Cup and practically ended Umar Sadiq’s spell at Ibrox. Despite that, Gerrard stated that his side have “respect” for Aberdeen.

“It’s a big game for us, a big three points at stake. The respect is certainly there after the last few results but it is up to us to find our levels,” Gerrard said, when asked about Derek McInnes’ side.

Rangers are likely to be without centre-back Connor Goldson who remains on the road to recovery, while long-term absentees Jamie Murphy and Graham Dorrans remain on the sidelines as does youngster Serge Atakayi.

Supporters of the Teddy Bears reacted on Twitter to Gerrard’s comments about Aberdeen, and were stunned to see their manager talking about “respect” for the Dons. They disagreed with him, urging their players to show “no respect”.
