Max Allegri is ‘so similar to Marcello Lippi’ and remains one of the finest coaches in the game, former Juventus ace Angelo di Livio has told Goal of the reported Newcastle United target.

If the Magpies are on the lookout for a boss capable of transforming one of English football’s sleeping giants into a real force in the British game, then who better than this former AC Milan and Cagliari tactician?

Allegri built on the platform laid down by Antonio Conte in Turin, winning five successive Scudetto’s at the helm of Juve.

He is also the man who led Milan to their most recent Serie A triumph a decade ago.

While the critics may use a rather attritional style of football as a stick with which to beat Allegri in an era obsessed with style as much as substance, Di Livio is having none of that.

Allegri, in his eyes, may be the second coming of the 2006 world champion Lippi.

“You have to respect a winner. I hold Massimiliano Allegri in high esteem because in comparison he looks so similar to Marcello Lippi,” Di Livio says.

“He who wins can’t be sacked. Allegri was pivotal for this Juventus.”

During a storied managerial career, Lippi has lifted a staggering 20 trophies for club and country. But, just last year, Allegri overtook him in the Serie A history books, celebrating his sixth Serie A title before walking away from Juventus with his head held high.

Just imagine the impact a man with this sort of CV could have at St James’ Park then, with ESPN claiming that Allegri is in the frame to take Steve Bruce’s job at Newcastle.
