Ireland fans have been waiting for Doherty to be given a chance after his fine form for Wolves.
Martin O’Neill has seemed reluctant to utilise Doherty, but he did hand the Wolves defender a start against Denmark.
Unfortunately for Doherty he was played in a more advanced role than he usually plays, and he struggled to make an impact.
And most Ireland supporters felt that O’Neill wasted the most in-form player in their squad.
Ireland ended up drawing 0-0 with Denmark in what was a drab match.
Doherty has been in sparkling form for Wolves this season, but he didn’t manage to pose as much of a threat for his nation.
