Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing the FC Porto winger this summer but they could do a lot better.
According to the print edition of Portuguese newspaper O Jogo (06/07/2017 pages 2-5), Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs interested in signing Yacine Brahimi this summer. The problem is, the 27-year-old is not what Spurs need as they bid to build on last season’s impressive achievements.
Brahimi is an attacking midfielder who operates predominantly on the wing and it is there that Tottenham are in need of reinforcements.

However, a look at the Algerian international’s figures over the last three seasons shows a player in decline, at exactly the time when he should be reaching his peak.
In the 2014/15 season Brahimi scored 13 goals and provided 10 assists in 42 appearances for Porto, predominantly from the left wing. A year later he managed nine goals and 10 assists in 44 outings, before finishing last season with just seven goals and four assists in 31 appearances.
While it must be noted that he played less last season, he was rarely injured and was dropped on occasions, and Tottenham can do so much better than the Porto man.
There is no doubt Spurs need more quality in wide areas, and Brahimi certainly has the experience lacking in so many of Tottenham’s young targets.
But Thomas Lemar is six years younger than Brahimi and ten times the player. Similarly there are other exciting wingers that Tottenham should be going for ahead of the 36-capped Algerian international.
