The Seagulls are reportedly interested in signing former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard on a one-year deal, according to the Express.

The 38-year-old is currently plying his trade in America with New York City, but he has stated his intention to leave the MLS side when his contract expires at the end of their current campaign.

The Express report that any kind of deal for Lampard hinges on Brighton’s ability to gain promotion to the Premier League, and with them currently sitting in second position in the Championship table, that is more than a realistic outcome.

The Express also report that Brighton’s Championship rivals Newcastle United are interested in securing the services of the former England international.

Despite his advancing years, Lampard has always kept himself at the absolute peak levels of fitness, and a player of his calibre would surely be welcomed with open arms at the Amex Stadium.

The former Chelsea man’s goalscoring record from midfield is second-to-none, and he has only added to his reputation with his fantastic record of 12 goals in 19 appearances during his time in the Big Apple.

There will surely be a whole host of clubs interested in Lampard, however, so Brighton will certainly not have things their own way, if they do attempt to convince the experienced midfielder to join their ranks.
