West Bromwich Albion are trying to agree deal for the Huddersfield Town striker, Karlan Grant, with Leicester City’s Islam Slimani their back up option, according to The Sun on Sunday (4 October, page 61).

It is claimed that West Brom may have to offer £18 million to prise Grant from Huddersfield’s Kirklees Stadium.

Whereas Slimani is said to be available on loan from Leicester.

In contrast, The Sunday Mirror (4 October, page 75) reports that Leicester have already rejected West Brom’s attempts to take Slimani on a temporary basis.

And the latter publication adds that the Foxes have informed their Midlands rivals they are only interested in a straight cash deal for the 32-year-old.

West Brom have until the end of Monday to finalise a move for Slimani, but could still sign Grant up until 16 October in the domestic window, which permits transfers between Premier League and EFL clubs.

Signing a new striker could be the catalyst for Charlie Austin and Kenneth Zohore to leave the Baggies after falling out of favour at the Hawthorns.

It is claimed that several of Huddersfield’s Championship rivals are keen on the pair.
