St Mirren winger Lewis Morgan will reportedly be the subject of a £400,000 bid from Nottingham Forest – meaning Rangers must act fast.
The race for Lewis Morgan is hotting up with two months to go until the opening of the January transfer window. The St Mirren starlet is out of contract in the summer and, by that logic, there are no shortage of interested suitors hoping to strike a cut-price deal in the New Year.
Director of football Frank McParland couldn’t have timed his visit much better with Morgan winning a penalty and setting up the other goal in a 2-2 draw. Thus, the report adds that Mark Warburton’s Forest are believed to be preparing a £400,000 bid.
Though if that is the fee required to convince St Mirren to cash in on their prized asset, one who has eight goals in just 16 games this season, fellow suitors Rangers cannot afford to be left behind.
The Mail reports that the Ibrox giants, as well as Old Firm rivals Celtic, are vying to hand Morgan his chance in the top division. Though it’s Rangers who need the 22-year-old winger far more than their local neighbours.
After all, the left wing has been something of a problem position for Rangers this season and Morgan, who started his career at Ibrox but was released from the club’s academy in 2013, would represent an immediate upgrade in their starting XI.
And considering that Rangers spent almost £10 million on a raft of largely underwhelming imports in the summer, a young, exciting bargain signing who knows Scottish football like the back of his hand would be well received at Ibrox – especially at just £400,000.
