Tottenham Hotspur look set to miss out on signing Evan Ndicka with the defender set to choose a move to Roma.

Evan Ndicka has been in contact with Tottenham Hotspur but looks poised to join Jose Mourinho’s Roma instead.

RMC Sport reporter Fabrice Hawkins claimed over the weekend that Tottenham were in contact to sign Ndicka.

Hawkins claimed that Ndicka had been speaking to Tottenham whilst weighing up his future.

The Eintracht Frankfurt defender is out of contract this summer and has already decided to leave the Bundesliga club.

Hawkins noted that offers were on the table from two Italian giants – AC Milan and Roma.

Both teams proposed five-year deals; Milan were offering €3million-a-year, around £50,000-a-week, whilst Roma offered €4million-a-year, around £66,000-a-week.

It’s unclear whether Tottenham actually got to the stage of offering a contract to Ndicka, but Spurs look set to miss out anyway.

Roma had the best offer on the table financially and Ndicka has now decided that they are the club for him.

Italian reporter Gianluigi Longari, often seen on Tuttomercatoweb and SportItalia, has taken to Twitter to claim that Ndicka has chosen Roma.

It’s stated that other teams did attempt late offers – possibly Tottenham based on Hawkins’ claims – but Roma have won the race.

Longer noted that Roma started chasing Ndicka months ago and have finally landed their man.

Roma have also secured Lyon playmaker Houssem Aouar on a free transfer, with Jose Mourinho landing a couple of bargains.

That means Tottenham must go back to the drawing board in search of a left-footed defender.

Ndicka would have been a budget-friendly addition and would have provided a welcome boost to Ange Postecoglou’s back line.

The deal won’t be happening now though and Spurs may subsequently push on to sign loanee Clement Lenglet permanently.
