According to the Sunday Mirror, (11/10, p73), Southampton are interested in signing Watford striker Troy Deeney.
It’s claimed that three Premier League clubs are lining up late moves for Deeney, with the deadline for EFL signings coming up on Friday.
Brighton and Hove Albion and West Bromwich Albion are also keen on Deeney, but Southampton will pose a real threat.
Ralph Hasenhuttl has a consistent goalscorer in Danny Ings, whilst Che Adams and Shane Long are both capable of doing dirty work around Ings.
Another proven Premier League striker could make some sense for Southampton, and Deeney’s 47 goals across five top-flight seasons means he fits the bill in that regard.
However, Deeney is now 32, and doesn’t really fit the Southampton age profile; they’ve gone for talented young players like Kyle Walker-Peters, Ibrahima Diallo and Mohamed Salisu this summer.

They seemingly made an exception to bring Theo Walcott back to the club, and moving to land Deeney too would be something of a shock.
The Daily Star add that West Ham United have asked about signing Deeney this week, with David Moyes keen to bring in another centre forward.
West Ham will seemingly face major competition for Deeney, but we’re still ruling that a move to the Hammers is much more likely than a switch to Southampton.
