According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers believe a new Director of Football will be in place this week – and The Express claim that Southampton’s Ross Wilson is deciding whether to make the move to Ibrox.
Not only have Rangers been searching for a new manager following Mark Warburton’s acrimonious departure earlier this month, but they are also looking for a Director of Football.
Frank McParland had been serving as Rangers’ Head of Recruitment under Warburton, but given that he also left with the former Gers boss, the club are now looking to alter their structure.
A Director of Football working alongside a new manager appears to be the model of choice, and a host of men have been suggested for the job, with Southampton’s Ross Wilson a leading candidate.
Wilson, formerly of Falkirk, is currently the Director of Scouting at Southampton, and has already held talks with Rangers having seemingly emerged as the club’s top target.
Highly-respected for a number of years, Wilson took the job with Southampton in 2015, and helped play a part in key signings such as Cedric Soares, Virgil van Dijk, Oriol Romeu, Sofiane Boufal and Manolo Gabbiadini.

Now, The Express report that Wilson is deciding whether to make the move, and is likely to make his decision after Southampton’s EFL Cup final game against Manchester United this afternoon.
The Scottish Sun add that Rangers believe an appointment will be made by the end of the week, which would then set the club up to land a new manager in their adapted structure, with direction certainly needed after a second defeat in a row for Rangers, who lost 2-1 to Inverness on Friday.
