According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Al-Gharafa boss Pedro Caixinha is ‘tempted’ by the prospect of managing Rangers, having become their top target.
Rangers have been searching for a new manager since Mark Warburton’s departure from the club last month, with youth coach Graeme Murty currently in caretaker charge of the club.
Whilst the Rangers board have been taking their time, the club need to line up a new manager in the near future – and their top choice appears to have emerged.
The Scottish Sun report that Al-Gharafa boss Pedro Caixinha is Rangers’ number one option to replace Warburton in a shock move, with Portuguese newspaper A Bola claiming that he’s tempted by a move to Ibrox.
Caixinha, 46, is currently managing in Qatar with Al-Gharafa, having previously been in charge of clubs such as Uniao Leiria, Nacional and Santos Laguna.
Previously an assistant to Jose Peseiro with Sporting Lisbon, Al-Hilal, Panathinaikos, Rapid Bucharest and Saudi Arabia, Caixinha has emerged as a shock target for the Gers.
Pedro Caixinha
With that in mind, Portuguese newspaper A Bola report that Caixinha is tempted by a move to Ibrox, as he wants to challenge for titles in Europe again – and whilst Rangers are some way behind Celtic right now, they have the potential to challenge for the Scottish Premiership title in the coming years.
Add in that Caixinha already has experience of working in Scotland having served as a scout for Celtic (The Scottish Sun), and he makes sense as a possible target for the Gers, even if he is a left-field suggestion.
