West Ham United have reportedly joined Everton and Manchester City in the race to sign West Brom defender Jonny Evans.
According to The Mirror, West Ham United have joined the race to sign West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans – but face competition from Everton and Manchester City.
The Baggies swooped to sign Evans from Manchester United in the summer of 2015, bringing an 11-year association with the Red Devils to an end after nearly 200 appearances.
Often a bit-part player for United, Evans has proven himself as one of the Premier League’s top centre backs with West Brom, turning in consistently superb performances at The Hawthorns.
The 29-year-old is now attracting major interest, with The Mirror reporting that Manchester City are ready to renew their interest in Evans after missing out on his signature over the summer, whilst Everton and new boss Allardyce are also keen.
Intriguingly, the report adds that West Ham United have also joined the race for Evans’ signature, with new manager David Moyes believing that the Northern Ireland international can help solve the Hammers’ leaky defence.
Moyes worked with Evans at Manchester United, and may hope that a reunion can tempt him into a move to the London Stadium, despite West Ham’s struggles in the relegation zone.
The problem for Moyes is that West Brom won’t sell Evans on the cheap. The Sun recently reported that the Baggies want £30million for Evans during the January transfer window.
With The Sun also claiming that West Ham will hand Moyes £30million to spend in the January transfer window, the Scot may have to spend his entire budget on Evans – and rival interest may be difficult to fend off too.
