Manchester United are reportedly hoping to make a statement with a January move for Ryan Sessegnon.

Ryan Sessegnon of Fulham applauds the fans after the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham FC at Wembley Stadium on August 18, 2018 in London, United Kingdom.

According to The Express, Manchester United are hoping to pip Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool to the signing of Fulham wonderkid Ryan Sessegnon in January.

Sessegnon, 18, has emerged as one of the top young talents in English football over the last two years, and he played a key part in Fulham’s promotion to the Premier League last term.

With 15 league goals and 16 in all competitions, Sessegnon underlined just why he is so highly rated, and he has unsurprisingly attracted major interest as a result.

As reported by BBC Sport on deadline day earlier this month, Tottenham Hotspur are believed to have offered a swap deal involving left back Danny Rose, but no move was agreed.

Spurs are understood to still be monitoring Sessegnon, as are Liverpool, but The Express now report that Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho wants to pip them both to the teenager’s signature.

It’s stated that the Red Devils are looking to make a statement over their rivals by landing Sessegnon, with Mourinho allegedly watching Sessegnon closely despite his poor track record for developing young players in recent years.

Fulham stood firm and refused to sell Sessegnon this summer, and it seems unlikely that they would be easily moved in January as they bid to stay in the Premier League this season.

Yet if United can come up with a huge offer to blow Liverpool and Spurs out of the water and tempt Fulham into a deal, then a move to Old Trafford could be in the pipeline for the teenager, who can play at left back or on the left wing.
