Manchester United’s Luke Shaw could be leaving the club next summer.
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United defender Luke Shaw is planning to leave the club as a free agent next summer if Jose Mourinho stays as manager.
The Red Devils are experiencing the famed and invariably tumultuous third season under Mourinho, with problems on and off the field permeating the club.
United performed a rousing fightback to beat Newcastle United 3-2 on Saturday evening having trailed 2-0 at half time, but Mourinho is far from out of the woods yet.
United appear to be sticking by him for now, but the Daily Mail report that his potential stay at Old Trafford could lead to departures – and one player eyeing the exit appears to be Luke Shaw.
The left back has been criticised heavily by Mourinho over the last two years, but has hit back in the early stages of this season with some of his best performances in a United shirt.
The problem for United is that Shaw’s contract expires at the end of the season, meaning he will be free to move on – and it’s claimed that he has no intention of signing a new deal if Mourinho is still in charge.
That would be perfect for Tottenham Hotspur, as The Sun reported just last month that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is very keen to bring Shaw to North London if he becomes available.
Negotiating directly with United is difficult given that the two clubs are vying for top four places, but signing Shaw as a free agent would be ideal for Spurs.
Danny Rose’s future is up in the air, and Shaw became a young sensation with Southampton under Pochettino, with a reunion – and a bargain one at that – potentially perfect for all, except United of course.
