According to the Daily Mail, Everton will continue their pursuit of Swansea City star Gylfi Sigurdsson even if Ajax midfielder Davy Klaassen joins the club – and The Mirror suggest that talks over a deal for Sigurdsson are progressing ‘cautiously’.

The Toffees are gearing up for their return to the Europa League, and manager Ronald Koeman will be looking for new signings having benefited from Farhad Moshiri’s investment over the last year.

Whilst Koeman has seen Idrissa Gueye and Morgan Schneiderlin arrive at Goodison Park, Ross Barkley’s future with the club is unclear – and Everton appear to be targeting not one but two attacking midfielders.

The Daily Mail report that whilst a deal for Ajax midfielder Davy Klaassen is progressing, the Toffees still intend to mount a move for Swansea City ace Gylfi Sigurdsson – and The Mirror even claim that talks are moving forward ‘cautiously’ over a deal for the Icelandic star.

Sigurdsson, 27, has established himself as one of the Premier League’s top attacking midfielders since re-joining Swansea from Tottenham in 2014, and he enjoyed a superb campaign this past season.

The playmaker hit nine goals and 13 assists from midfield as he helped keep Swansea in the Premier League, and he’s now being earmarked as a target for Everton off the back of his exploits in South Wales.

Swansea are believed to want £35million for Sigurdsson, hence why talks aren’t quite as advanced as those for Klaassen, but Everton are allegedly confident that both players will join.

It’s not clear just how Koeman will fit Sigurdsson, Klaassen, Gueye and Schneiderlin into his team, but they are all top midfield players – and this double move for Klaassen and Sigurdsson surely spells the end for Barkley.
