According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Inter Milan are now moving for AC Milan playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu after links to Arsenal.
It’s claimed that Inter want to sign another playmaker given the natural fears over Christian Eriksen’s future in the game, and Calhanoglu fits the bill with his Milan contract up next week.
Fabrizio Romano backs up the claims, tweeting that Inter are confident of signing Calhanoglu, raiding their city neighbours in the process.
What about Arsenal moving for Calhanoglu?
Milan Live reported last month that Arsenal had been in talks with Calhanoglu’s representatives to discuss a potential deal.
Arsenal were even stated as being one of just three options for Calhanoglu, with Juventus and Galatasaray both keen too – but that was before Inter got involved.
Once compared to Mesut Ozil by Winfried Schafer, Calhanoglu could have followed in his footsteps by joining Arsenal, who are desperate to sign a number 10 this summer.
That Arsenal move now doesn’t look likely though, with Inter seemingly the team most likely to sign Calhanoglu on a free transfer this summer.
How did Calhanoglu fare last season?
Calhanoglu hit nine goals and 12 assists in all competitions, enjoying a fine season with Milan ahead of becoming a free agent.
He has though been part of a dismal Euro 2020 campaign with Turkey, and will no doubt be desperate to get back to club football.
The 27-year-old’s next destination could see him stay in Milan after all, just with AC’s rivals – and leave Arsenal going back to the drawing board again.
