West Ham United are in the market for a new director of football.

Steve Walsh, assistant manager celebrates on stage during the Leicester City Barclays Premier League Winners Bus Parade on May 16, 2016 in Leicester, England.

West Ham United could be looking for a new manager this summer depending on David Moyes’ future, but they will certainly be looking to land a director of football.

The Hammers are mired in the relegation battle given that they lie just two points clear of the drop zone, with a huge game against Southampton coming up this weekend.

Whether West Ham stay up or not, an off-field change-up is coming, with Karren Brady confirming that the search is on for a director of football, given that David Sullivan is stepping back this summer.

Leicester City’s Eduardo Macia is the only name linked with the job, but the man he replaced at the King Power Stadium should also be on West Ham’s wish list.

Steve Walsh left Leicester for Everton in 2016, but faces being axed at Goodison Park given that The Mirror report that PSV Eindhoven director of football Marcel Brands is being lined up to replace him this summer.

Walsh spent heavily with Everton last summer but a lack of returns means he could be on his way out this summer, and West Ham could still land a talented transfer chief if they hang on and wait for Walsh.

His Everton record may be patchy, but this is still the man who helped Leicester City land Christian Fuchs, N’Golo Kante, Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy, putting in hard work to build the Foxes’ title-winning squad.

A reduced budget at West Ham and getting back to unearthing gems rather than being under huge pressure to spend massive money may be more up Walsh’s street, and given his experience in the Premier League, West Ham should at least consider keeping Walsh in the Premier League.
