Rangers continue to pursue Steven Gerrard as their new manager.
According to The Mirror, Steven Gerrard is now considering whether he will receive the backing needed at Rangers – but The Scottish Sun claim he has given his approval to deals for Allan McGregor and Scott Arfield.
The Gers face Celtic in yet another Old Firm derby this weekend, but director of football Mark Allen has been busy preparing the club for next season.
The search for a new Rangers manager is well underway, and after days of speculation, it seems that Liverpool under-18 coach Steven Gerrard is the chosen man for the Gers.
The Mirror report that Gerrard is Rangers’ first-choice for the job, and he will now have time to consider whether he wants to take the position as his first managerial role.
It’s claimed the 37-year-old former England international does have one hesitation, and it’s over the amount of backing he will receive from the Rangers board given the difficulty of the challenge ahead.
The Scottish Sun add that Gerrard has given his approval to two signings, effectively rubber-stamping Allen’s planned deals for Hull goalkeeper Allan McGregor and Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield.
All signs now point to Gerrard heading to Ibrox and beginning his managerial career in a risky move from Rangers, and it will also see him go up against his former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, now at Celtic.
