According to The Scottish Sun, Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster has snubbed a loan return to Celtic this summer.
The Scottish Sun also report that the Saints wanted at least £5million for permanent deal, whilst he would have had to drop his £90,000-a-week wages to secure a move.
Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has seemingly told Forster that he will have the chance to prove himself again, and Forster has decided to make a shock U-turn stay put.
Joe Hart’s advisors have allegedly pushed his credentials to Celtic, with the free agent a possible backup target behind Forster.
With another loan move seemingly not what Forster wanted, he will now stay on the South Coast in a huge blow to Neil Lennon’s plans.
The 32-year-old, who starred for Celtic before leaving for Southampton in 2014, excelled on loan this past season having returned to Parkhead.
The Bhoys understandably wanted to keep Forster, but having been confident of his return, their plans are now in tatters.
Celtic must now move on quickly and attempt to find at least one more goalkeeper. That’s Craig Gordon and Forster now gone from this past season’s squad, and Lennon won’t want to go into the new campaign with Scott Bain as his only senior stopper.
