Pierre-Emile Højbjerg is open to leaving Tottenham Hotspur this summer amid interest from Atletico Madrid.
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg could end up in Spain this summer with Atletico Madrid interested.
Tuttomercatoweb report that Højbjerg is now a top target for Atletico this summer as Diego Simeone seeks new signings.
It’s stated that signing Højbjerg is ‘very important’ for Atletico and they are negotiating with Tottenham to try and secure a deal.
However, Tottenham’s demands are ‘high’ and Atletico are currently unwilling to pay up to sign the midfielder.
The Athletic add that both Tottenham and Højbjerg himself are now willing to part ways this summer.
It’s believed that Atletico are indeed keen but The Athletic claim that no contact has actually been made yet.
Højbjerg turns 28 in August and Tottenham are happy to sell as he enters the final two years of his contract.
Ange Postecoglou looking for something different as Tottenham open to selling Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
Tottenham secured an important midfield addition on Wednesday night as they confirmed the signing of James Maddison.
That’s a perfect fit for Postecoglou’s attacking brand of football and it’s unclear just where Hojbjerg would fit in.
The Dane – hailed as a ‘fantastic leader’ by former coach John Ranum – isn’t really suited to playing the deep playmaking role Callum McGregor was given under Postecoglou at Celtic.

Reo Hatate got on the ball, roamed around and make an impact in the final third – something which doesn’t really suit Hojbjerg either.
Add in that Maddison will now take on playmaking abilities and it’s just hard to see where Hojbjerg fits in.
That means this is the perfect time to sell Hojbejrg; two years left on his deal and obviously not as close to his 30’s as he would be in a year.
Whether it’s Atletico or another team, it’s time for Hojbjerg to move on from Tottenham and signal a sea change in the Spurs midfield.
