According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Everton have made a first approach to Watford in an attempt to sign Abdoulaye Doucoure.
The Daily Mail add that Doucoure is open to leaving Watford this summer, having suffered relegation to the Championship.
It’s claimed that Doucoure saw a £30million move to Goodison Park collapse last summer, meaning he is now interested in moving this time.
Carlo Ancelotti wasn’t in charge then, but he is desperate to add energy to the Everton midfield, with Marcel Brands seemingly keeping tabs on Doucoure.
The 27-year-old has been a key man for Watford over the last three seasons, emerging as a hugely talented box-to-box midfielder.
Watford may find it difficult to keep hold of Doucoure, as he will have aspirations much higher than playing in the Championship.
Doucoure would fit well into Ancelotti’s 4-4-2, as he can get up and down the pitch well, contributing going forward whilst also being a physical presence.
Everton would likely expect a lower fee this time around given Watford’s relegation and the global pandemic, and his wages shouldn’t be a huge issue.
Doucoure ticks many boxes for Everton, and as a proven Premier League player, he shouldn’t face a huge adjustment period should the Toffees succeed with their approach.
