Schalke are reportedly unable to afford Tottenham left back Danny Rose.

According to Sky Sports, Schalke have been forced to turn their attentions away from Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose due to the finances of any deal.

Spurs ended the summer transfer window without any new signings, but Mauricio Pochettino may still look to shed a couple of first-team players from his squad.

The likes of Toby Alderweireld, Mousa Dembele and Vincent Janssen may move on, and left back Danny Rose is another name strongly linked with an exit.

The Mirror reported on Monday night that Tottenham wanted £50million for Rose amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Schalke, but the latter appear to be out of the race already.

Sky Sport report that Schalke are now backing away from Rose having been price out of a move, and the numbers show just how far away the Bundesliga club really were.

It’s claimed that Schalke have set aside €7million (£6.25million) for a left back, and want to sign them permanently rather than on loan, making Rose a complete non-starter.

That’s not to say that Schalke thought they could land Rose for just over £6million, but they may have wanted to spend that on a loan deal before deciding they wanted a permanent signing, and there is no chance of Rose making that move given the budget restrictions.

Rose, 28, finds himself as second choice at Spurs behind Ben Davies and faces a fight to get himself back in contention under Pochettino, with a move seemingly best for all parties – but he won’t be heading to Schalke any time soon.
