According to La Derniere Heure and Four Four Two, Celtic are set to miss out on Zulte Waregem winger Theo Bongonda, with a €7million (£6.2million) move to Genk imminent.

Bongonda, 23, had been a highly-touted talent with Zulte, but his move to Celta Vigo was a major flop, and after a similarly poor spell on loan at Trabzonspor, he headed back to Zulte.

This season, the left winger racked up 14 goals and 14 assists in all competitions, meaning he racked up 28 goal involvements in 39 games, proving he’s going some way to fulfilling his potential now.

Unsurprisingly, there’s now strong interest in Bongonda, with La Derniere Heure and Four Four Two noting that Celtic and Brighton and Hove Albion are interested in him.

However, it’s also claimed that Genk are set to close a €7million (£6.2million) move for Bongonda, with his move set to go through imminently.

Bongonda is being viewed as a replacement for Genk’s star winger Leandro Trossard, who has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League.

Bongonda could have been a major signing for Celtic, with the fee something of a bargain for a winger with that kind of production, but Neil Lennon and co must now look elsewhere as Genk prepare to confirm their deal.
