Celtic are chasing Brentford playmaker Romaine Sawyers.

According to The Scottish Sun, Brentford are demanding £2.5million for Celtic target Romaine Sawyers – and the Daily Record claim they’ll pay it.
Sawyers, 27, hit seven assists last season, and after Celtic’s deal for attacking midfielder David Turnbull fell through last month, Neil Lennon has switched targets.
Sawyers is now the man Celtic want, and they allegedly failed with a £1.5million opening bid for the playmaker just days ago, with Brentford now demanding £2.5million.
A second report believes Celtic will now offer that £2.5millon fee, which may mean that Sawyers can make the move up to Parkhead imminently.
That will provide Celtic with another creative option in midfield, and he’ll challenge with the likes of Callum McGregor, Ryan Christie and Tom Rogic for a midfield role.
Formerly at West Bromwich Albion, Sawyers made his name with Walsall before following Dean Smith to Brentford in 2016, where he has racked up nearly 150 appearances.

A smooth and skilful playmaker, Sawyers – an international with St Kitts and Nevis – looks like a bargain at just £2.5million, offering depth and creativity without breaking the bank.
It is though something of a surprise that Celtic will be pursuing a playmaker who turns 28 in November as an alternative target to youngster Turnbull.
Signing another talent for the future would have been the natural move, but Lennon is instead going for a more proven player in Sawyers, with a very reasonable price in the works.
